Lewis Hamilton has rejected the speculation that was covered on social media recently which was about the monetary value of his next contract with Mercedes-AMG petronas team.
Reports showed that Mercedes is suggesting to offer the six time Formula 1 world champion about £50 million a year for a 2 years contract 2021-2022, but Hamilton is demanding a £66 million counter-offer.
Lewis Hamilton denies all of that.
“Toto wolf and I still have not disccused anything about the new contract yet,” Lewis Hamilton said on his instagram account story.
“Nothing was negotiated yet about my new contract presently, it was only a fake story created on papers .”
Indeed, staying at Mercedes is the best option for Hamilton, after Scuderia Ferrari and Red Bull racing have already signed up Charles Leclerc and Max Verstappen on long-term contracts.
But speculation the Mercedes team could be sold and rebranded as Aston Martin for 2021 could be a complication that re-fires rumours of a switch to Ferrari for Hamilton.
Red Bull’s Dr Helmut Marko this week said that there is no team in Formula 1 wouldbe willing to pay Lewis Hamilton what he is reportedly demanding, not even Mercedes. but maybe there is a chance of 40% that Ferrari would offer him that.
In a press interview with the Italian magazine Autosprint, Ferrari’s sporting boss Laurent Mekies said that he classifies Lewis Hamilton in the same level as Charles Leclerc and Max Verstappen.
“The three drivers are exceptional talents, that’s clear,” Laurent Mekies said.
